On April 22, hundreds and thousands of people across the globe will take part in the largest environmental event in the world. Earth Day is about celebrating ecological respect and doing what we can to lessen our impact on the earth. At Hotel Blackfoot, we are always committed to making eco-conscious decisions in order to maintain an environmentally friendly hotel. In doing so, here are a few ways that we contribute to reducing our footprint while still providing amazing hospitality to our downtown Calgary guests.
Climate change is the single biggest problem facing our planet today. When it comes to energy use, we are proud to choose 100% green electricity with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, for our meeting rooms and executive floors—a first for hotels in Alberta. Bullfrog Power’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydropower sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities. The organization also uses its customers’ support to help develop community-based green energy projects in Canada—such as solar panels on schools and community centres.
We also take pride in reducing our environmental footprint by providing greener options for your business travel meetings and leisure events. We have implemented two EV (electric vehicle) charging stations on site and eco-friendly room service options, including towel reuse and sheet change programs as well as larger shampoo and shower gel bottles, which replaces the wasteful individual-use formats.
This year, 192 countries will take action and we are more than happy to play a role in protecting our shared environment. Join the movement this Earth Day and find things to do outside in the city, turn off the lights in your home, unplug your gadgets, and join us at Hotel Blackfoot as we celebrate a healthier Earth.
